Rinker Buck was born in 1930 in New York City. He began his career as a journalist, writing for the New York Post and the New Yorker, before becoming a sportswriter. He is a regular columnist on sport for The New York Times and has written more than twenty books—including the bestselling A Season on the Brink, which was made into a movie starring Kevin Costner. He lives in Katonah, New York with his wife, the novelist Pat Vance.
